Tammi Musumeci claims she’s up for a repeat with Danielle Kelly.
Danielle Kelly and Tammi Musumeci are up for a superfight inside the Circle. On Friday, March 24, Musumeci made her promotional début at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video.
Tammi Musumeci, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, has recently made her MMA debut with ONE Championship. As of March 2023, she has only had one MMA fight, which took place on March 24, 2023, at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video. In that fight, she defeated Bianca Basilio by unanimous decision.
However, prior to her MMA debut, Musumeci had an impressive career in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She is a multiple-time world champion and has won numerous titles in both Gi and No-Gi competitions. Musumeci also holds the distinction of being the first American woman to win a black belt world title in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Musumeci added that she would be receptive to competing against Danielle Kelly, a rising star in submission grappling.
“I fought Danielle Kelly a year ago, and I heard she wants to fight me, so I’d be down for that. I could definitely make 115 lbs. I’ve made 115lbs in Jiu-Jitsu, and that’s where you literally weigh in and then you fight right after.”
Since they competed against one another in 2021 under the Who’s Number One title, Kelly and Musumeci are acquainted with one another. In their first and only encounter so far, Musumeci prevailed by armlock.
Danielle Kelly has since become one of the most well-known submission wrestlers in the entire globe. The Silver Fox BJJ prodigy, who signed with ONE Championship in 2022, has amassed back-to-back victories. Ayaka “Zombie” Miura, a star in mixed martial arts, and Mariia Molchanova, the reigning world champion in sambo, both won via submit.
On May 5, the promotion will make its eagerly awaited debut in the United States, and Tammi Musumeci wants to be there.
She says, “I work full time, so it’s easier to fight in the U.S., and it would be cool to get on the May 5 card. I don’t know if it’s possible, but whenever they come to the U.S., that would be really cool.”
The North American premiere of ONE Championship will take place at ONE Fight Night 10 at the 1stBank Center in Colorado.Mikey Musumeci, the sibling of ONE world champion Tammi Musumeci, will be one of the promotion’s top performers at the historic event. Osamah Almarwai of Yemen will be his opponent as he prepares to retain his ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship.
There will be two additional ONE world championship fights at the event. To retain his ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship against Edgard Tabares, “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon makes a comeback.
The current ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson will retain his title against rival in the division Adriano Moraes in the evening’s main event.
Tammi Musumeci hopes to succeed in the footsteps of the Lee family and compete in world championships alongside her sibling Mikey.
She stated that after a successful debut, she wants to follow in her brother Mikey Musumeci’s footsteps and capture the ONE World Championship.
“It would mean so much to me to become a champion like my brother. It would be similar to what the Lee family has accomplished, and that would be really cool.”
Mikey Musumeci is primarily known for his achievements in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling, and he has not had a professional MMA career.
Musumeci is widely regarded as one of the best BJJ competitors in history, having won multiple world championships in both gi and no-gi grappling. He has also had success in submission grappling competitions such as the ADCC World Championship and the Submission Underground.
Although Musumeci has not competed in MMA professionally, he has expressed interest in the sport and has trained extensively in various aspects of MMA, including striking and wrestling. He has also trained with several high-level MMA fighters and coaches.
It remains to be seen whether Musumeci will pursue a career in MMA in the future, but his impressive grappling credentials and well-rounded training suggest that he could be successful if he decides to make the transition to the sport.
